Mummy's Product Review - Milk Up Candy, My New Found Milk Booster

When it comes to breastfeeding and milk production supply, I think being both an over-supply Mummy or an under-supply Mummy may be equally worrisome. Though most of us (esp low supply Mummies) would think that having an abundance in supply is far better off. It's been 6 months now that I have breastfed my second baby and boy I never knew I could come this far. *Having the look of satisfaction now on my face - Haha* My supply has always been enough for Baby H. and was more than enough until the time I started work. When babies are bottle-fed, they tend to drink more than when latched on directly. Don't ask me why, it really beats me. *??*  So b'cuz of that, my supply slowly could not catch up with her bottle-feeding demands and thus putting me in distress and worrying on most days. My supply was totally on par with her daily bottle feeds at my MIL's place and every day when I had to pump I would worry if my output couldn't match to her intake. In desperation, I started looking for milk boosters after taking all kinds of supposed natural milk-boosting foods. Eh-hem, yes I already tried out all the natural food sources before turning to help with supplements. I took foods like oats, dates, spinach, wakame miso, salmon, brown rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, almonds, fennel, fenugreek, garlic, and lots of water... (and the list goes on). I even tried several milk-boosting supplements which were recommended by Lactation Consultants and didn't work for me either. Those I took were supplements that mainly contained fenugreek and fennel contents in them, guess I just don't react to these ingredients?

A few months ago my Mummy friends and I were talking about this milk-boosting supplement called the Milk Up Candy and at first our impression of it was something dodgy. 'Cuz like Candy.. eh.... and made in Malaysia??? (disclaimer: the comment has nothing to do with racism or any sorts, but its more towards the quality of the product made) Its like quite LOL lah, if you get what I mean. I never really thought too much of it though a few of them said they will not dare to try. Anyways then shortly later just happened that the local distributor for this product reached out to me and wanted to send me some to try out. I was totally open to trying after going through the ingredients list to find that they're all natural and I even checked with the supplier if the product was HSA-approved. Milk Up Candy is not HSA-approved b'cuz HSA advised that their ingredients fall under the list of which does not require any approval and thus is deemed safe. Honestly speaking I'm not that particular whether the supplement is HSA-approved or not, so long as the ingredients are natural and are not harmful for me and my baby - it's all that matters. But I just took the liberty to ask since I know many Mummies are gonna ask me if it is or not so I better check and throw it out there.

The Milk Up Candy looks just like what the name says, candies. They're supposedly Raspberry-flavored candies but IMO they taste a little like 'sng-mueh' candies (sour plum candies). You know those we had as kids? Ehm, probably only Mummies born in the 80s or before that would know.. LOL. They're chewable tabs so just pop them into your mouth and chew, yes like candies. If you're scared it has a weird medicated taste etc? No le, I didn't taste anything strange about the candies and they taste quite alright. Okay so most importantly is whether Milk Up Candy was effective for me? YES!! I was actually pretty amazed with the effect b'cuz I had an almost-immediate reaction the same night I started taking the candies. The first time I tried the candies, I took 2 tabs that very evening. I was advised to take 2 every morning and 2 every evening for fast-boosting and so I did. That night for the first time in a long time I had engorgement. It was a happy and sad situation but more happy b'cuz I knew the candies were working on me. It's like finally!! Finally my body/boob is reacting to something!!! Hahaha.. I really felt like that.

I really don't know which of the above in the ingredients list was the booster that helped, but I guess its probably the entire thing as a whole? If you're wondering how I judged whether the Milk Up Candy was truly effective for me, let me share.. I am actually on a small quest to try and review 2 VERY POPULAR milk-boosters raved by Mummies. One is this, the Milk Up Candy, and the other is the Chicken Essence and Essence Of Herbs by Haoyikang. When taking each of these supplements/health products, I am not taking anything else concurrently and do not overlap these two. I took Milk Up Candy for 2-3 weeks straight and I finished consuming 2 bottles of them during this period. I pumped and recorded my output over the weeks and came up with a final review.

After which I discovered my actual increase in my supply, I quickly shared with my followers on Instagram (see my post reviews) 'cuz most of them are Mummies and I was excited to share my joy. Actually hor even though I was sponsored the 2 bottles of Milk Up Candies, I was never obliged to write a blog review. But now I am writing it out of my own will b'cuz I feel that it has really helped me with boosting my milk supply and I just wanna share with other Mummies who are possibly in the same boat as me, looking out for effective milk boosters to help them with the continuation of breastfeeding. Its like me, took 6 months to finally find something effective. *slaps face* I have been spending money on those non-effective supps hoping that one day my boob would function better on it. **slaps face again after saying that**

Okay so the above was the comparison between week 2 and week 3. The recorded output was over a period of 10 hours during my work day and my activity was pretty much the same - was actually class day! I actually yield 55ml more and was really happy with the results!! Ehm I know it doesn't sound like alot, but for a desperate Mummy who wants to boost any amount at all, this 55ml is precious precious liquid gold!! Don't laugh k!! Remember I said I was gonna stop the Milk Up Candy and try the essences from Haoyikang? I actually stopped taking the candies for full 3 days before starting on the essences. Initially I was so worried that my supply would dip after I stop taking the candies, but then hor within the break period my supply was still the same. It was something really good to know!

And since the Milk Up Candy worked very well for me and many of my followers on Instagram (@Vannytelly) have been asking, I started to hold sprees for the candies and its now also available on my online store on Vanny-Fitness (feel free to check it out). One of my Mummy student-and-follower sent me this WA one night telling me she's also finally feeling her let-down again after taking the candies for 2 days. I was overjoyed to know it's actually working and helping other breastfeeding Mummies too. She's one of those who shared with me her concerns of her supply dipping and more so 'cuz she was unwell. So both of shared what we've tried and the candies worked well for her. *Happy*!!

The Milk Up Candy can be consumed by both Breastfeeding & Preggy Mummies (after 4 months of pregnancy 🤰), and here's the list of benefits of taking the candies other than milk boosting..
Benefits For Mummies (taken from the product brochure):
  1. Increase Milk Production
  2. Stimulates & forms more milk glands
  3. Enriched breastmilk
  4. Beautify & whitens skin
  5. Fades stretch marks
  6. Firmed & Beautify breast shape
  7. Provides energy
  8. Increass low blood pressure
  9. Treats Eczema
  10. Repair & Nourish women's uterus
  11. Balancing hormones in the body
  12. Reduce hair loss
  13. Heals stitches wounds quickly
  14. Reduced stress
  15. Reduced symptoms postpartum depression
  16. Reduced baby jaundice level
  17. Helps in the development of the baby's brain
  18. Helps the digestive system to avoid constipation
  19. Increase baby's immune system
Breastfeeding is supposed to be an enjoyable, bonding process for both Mummies & babies and shouldn't be overly stressful. Stress sometimes is unavoidable but too much of it is a HUGE SUPPLY KILLER!! Being able to provide baby with the best is what we Moms always want for our child, but even if we have to supplement with formula milk does not make us any less of a good Mom - remember that! Every drop of liquid gold contains the goodness from our breastmilk and so long as baby gets any of that, it is all that matters! Does not mean baby has to be fully fed with breastmilk to continue receiving all the nutrients and antibodies okay? I will touch abit on formula milk on a separate post soon. Gambateh Mummies!
So that's all for today and I hope you liked my review on milk boosters, stay tuned for my next review on the essences from Haoyikang! Beauty Brand Review Part 3_Daily Skincare Regime Of A Beauty Queen_With The Latest H.A. INTENSIFER Serum by SkinCeuticals

Hi Guys, if you have been following me closely you'd have read about my skincare regime this year which hugely associates with the products from SkinCeuticals. I'll share with you more links on my previous blog posts about my past reviews later at the end of the blog but today I'll like to share with you a new skincare product from SkinCeuticals which has been launched just a couple of months ago. The H.A. Intensifier is the latest multi-functional corrective lifting serum which helps to amplify skin's Hyaluronic Acid by:
  1. lifting (improve sagginess),
  2. firming (anti-aging),
  3. and plumps up the skin.

Why Hyaluronic Acid is important to the skin?

As we age, skin's moisture can drop significantly. This makes the skin lose elasticity and expose the signs of aging on the skinHyaluronic acid is crucial in skin health because it has unique ability to hold in moisture. With regular usage of Hyaluronic acid, our skin benefits tissue repair and protection leading to increased skin smoothness, and amelioration (great improvement) of wrinkles

Did You Know?

In skin care, you can find hyaluronic acid in facial creams, serums, injectables (aka: fillers like Restylane), and supplements. Other than complementing such injectable treatments to plump up the skin, the H.A. Intensifier is also a good alternative to fillers as a non-invasive hydration and firming method when used as a standalone product. So those of you who prefer to avoid needles (fillers) to help plump up your skin, this is your shot at it!

So How Do You Use It?

The H.A. Intensifier is best paired with Hydrating B5 serum to boost the hydrating effects by amplifying the hyaluronic acid contents in both products. The Hydrating B5 is an oil-free hydrating serum with the key ingredients of hyaluronic acids which help to retain moisture in the skin & Vitamin B5 promotes natural repair to the skin.

The H.A. Intensifier contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, proxylane™, and botanical extracts of licorice root and purple rice to support skin’s hyaluronic acid levels and deliver surface hydration, helping improve the visible appearance of firmness, smoothness, and facial plumpness.

By pairing these two hydrating power-couple, they amplify the skin’s hyaluronic acid levels by 30% and may beneift from:
  • ~ Reduction of crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines for smoother, firmer skin
  • ~ Delivers long lasting hydration to visibly improve skin’s texture
  • ~ Better application of make-up by creating a smooth canvas on the skin
  • ~ Improvement of skin's plumpness, firmness, elasticity and texture

You may be wondering how the H.A. Intensifier can acts as an amplifier to boost the hyauronic acid contents?

One of the key ingredients used is the Licorice Root Extract (dipotassium glycyrrhizate) + 0.2% Purple Rice Extract: These potent ingredients work together to help preserve hyaluronic acid content in skin. That is how it can help to amplify and boost your H.A. products! Sounds really awesome already doesn't it?

Texture & Scent...

The H.A. Intensifier is a serum but has a unique gel-serum texture to it. The serum glides on the skin effortlessly yet absorbs quickly into the skin. My skin always feels smooth after application. As usual all SkinCeuticals skincare products do not have strong scents to them and mostly are either unscented or mildly-scented. The H.A. Intensifier has a very very mild hint of floral note which is soothing to smell yet light on the senses.

My daily regimen in the day
1. CLEANSE with Gentle Cream Cleanser.
2. PREVENT with Serum 10 (protective antioxidant).
3. CORRECT with H.A. Intensifier (multi-functional corrective lifting serum) + Eye Balm (Anti-Aging eye cream)
4. HYDRATE with Hydrating B5 (hydration serum).
5. PROTECT with Sheer Physical UV Defence (sunblock).

Many of my female friends have given me compliments of my skin and asked me what products I have been using. So I thought of coming up with this list just to share with anyone who's keen in twitching their skincare regime. The above has been my daily morning skincare regime almost the whole of 2017. Only on certain occasions where I have break-outs or redness on my face then I'll replace my serums with the Phyto Corrective Gel which has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties to help soothe and calm irritated skin. Other than that my regime remains the same. Hope that helps!

My OOTDs Wearing Maternity & Nursing Wear From Mothers En Vogue (MEV)_Maternity Edition

As a STM (Second Time Mom) I know my preference for clothing choices during pregnancy very well b'cuz I've been through & done that. When I was expecting my first child, I told myself "aiya I won't need maternity wear since I'm slim" and I thought that b'cuz I was pretty confident I wouldn't gain that much weight that I'll need maternity wear. So true enough, I gained a healthy 13kg (38 weeks full term) for my first and 11kg (35 weeks pre-term) for my second. It was quite the healthy range and average number of weight gained and I was happy b'cuz both babies grew well. But even with an average weight gain, I still SWORE BY maternity wear in my last trimester (for my first pregnancy) b'cuz my shorts wouldn't fit anymore, and so did some of my other clothing. I wore maternity wear almost through my entire pregnancy for my second one b'cuz they're just super comfy - haha!

I came to know about Mothers En Vogue (MEV) through the internet while I was browsing for maternity wear online. The brand stood out to me as their styles were simple, feminine and classy. I also love that the fabric chosen for their clothing line are natural and non-synthetic (man made). This allows Mummies & Mummies-to-be benefit most from wearing as natural textiles are most comfortable and breathe-able and help reduce chances of skin sensitivities or reactions.

Many people actually have this mentality that maternity wear is very auntie or obiang (outdated). But infact if you dress your bump up nicely, you can look just as good as anyone else! Let me show you some of my OOTDs with my MEVs. 😉

With my first born, Fayth, during the first day of the Lunar Chinese New Year this year wearing a Pink Maternity and Nursing top (Wrap Sleeveless Maternity-Nursing Top in Coral Wave Print) from the Xtended series. Clothing from the Xtended series line is dual use; suitable for both maternity and nursing wear. Both of us looking sweet in pink with our white casual shorts for that young & fun look.

My lunch dates are made simpler by pulling on my Zahra Sleeveless Maternity-Nursing Dress in Eclipse 👗; a stylish shade of blue with feminine neck detailing which is flattering yet really comfy to be in. 🤰🏻This is a Maternity-and-Nursing dress from the Xtended series yet again which I'm loving 'cuz it's dual use; meaning that it'll be suitable as both maternity & nursing wear, so its still wearable even after delivery.

Posing in my wardrobe favs: Je T’aime Sleeveless Maternity-Nursing Top in India Ink from the Xtended Series paired with their Live In ‘Em Maternity Leggings (Long) in Black 👚👖. I cannot tell you how comfy they are so you should check it out yourselves! They're made of really great quality organic cotton which is just too comfy its def a keeper! I'll def be able to wear them for the long run. Fav place to get my casuals. 👍😁

Casual Shopping Day in my maternity-and-nursing top from the Xtended Series by with romantic lace shorts and chic flat silver sandals. 👡 The only piece of maternity 🤰🏻clothing here is my Pretty Zahra Sleeveless Maternity-Nursing Top in French Lilac, which can also be used as transitional wear for after delivery - to use as nursing wear b'cuz it has nursing access. Value for money! 👍

And finally an OOTD shot in Taipei with my wardrobe must-haves: maternity-and-nursing dress from the Xtended Series + their super comfy basic leggings 👖, topped up with a biker jacket from Bysi & my fav Huarache Nike kicks 👟 for the Rocker Chic look. Who says preggers can't dress up with style? 🙊🤰🏻

If you noticed all of my maternity wear from MEV are from the Xtended series, that's b'cuz they're transitional wear - means you'd still be able to use them as nursing wear b'cuz it has nursing access. Value for money which is what I like! 😃👍

So that's all for today and I hope you liked my short OOTD & review sharing session. Now do you still think that maternity wear is outdated? I guess it's really all about how you're gonna dress your bump in them. Hope you like my OOTD ideas! Do feel free to leave comments in the comment box below if you have any question/s regarding the topic and I'll try my best to answer them if it's not already stated in my blog above. Family Photoshoot With Inessa Studio

For the last one year or so I've been doing a few photoshoots for the different milestones of my 2nd pregnancy. When I had my first born Fayth, Hubs and I did an underwater maternity shoot b'cuz as a FTM (First Time Mom) and the adventurous me I wanted something different and not the usual studio shoot. After that we didn't do any other shoots b'cuz being a practical Mom I just thought "oh no need lah save money". But having my second baby was a different thing already. First I did an EDD Group Shoot with June 2017 Mummy friends b'cuz I thought it was fun and I never really participated in such group events when I had Fayth. Then I wanted the conventional Studio Maternity Shoot since my first was a very unique one already. After Baby H. was born, I told Hubs I wanted to do a Newborn Shoot with/for her b'cuz Fayth had a 1 yo shoot so lets do a NB one for Baby H. Actually deep down inside me I know how much I miss NBs and I do not know.

All the shoots done for my 2nd pregnancy so far has been with Inessa Studio. We started with them since the organiser for my EDD shoot picked Inessa Studio to work with, so naturally from there we carried on with them. Their prices were also affordable and I was quite comfortable with the photographer, Haru. This time again I took my entire little family for a family shoot at Inessa Studio and I'm having this little photo journal on my blog as my online photobook as well as share them with you guys. Hope you like them as much as we do! (P.s. another photographer Steve, did the Newborn & now the family shoot for us).

To be honest our shoot was a disaster firstly b'cuz we were rushing the entire day as it was the day we celebrated Fayth's birthday. Already there were tons of errands to run and we were so in a rush, Fayth had to be a HUGE mischief during the shoot and refused to take instructions - gosh!! (*slaps forehead*) Having a 2 year old toddler who's super active to take a group photoshoot was really challenging! I've ever brought her out for paid shoots before and it was a breeze, guess she listens to Mummy. But when Hubs was around for our family shoot, she totally just went crazy.

But having said, thankfully the photos turned out well.. Hubs & I liked them 'cuz they're really natural. Lots of the shots were more like candids showing us having fun. It was a disaster only b'cuz we prepared 2 sets of family wear but only managed to shoot in one. B'cuz after all of us had to wait for Fayth in between the shoot, Baby H. couldn't take the wait and burst out into cranky mode. Yea, so that was the story of our first family shoot. Haha...

Hahaha, look at Baby H's face. She's like "eh get me out of here"! Actually after having this experience, I'll say do the family shoot when your infant can sit on his/her own. Probably then you'd get to have more variations in the poses or positioning. B'cuz she can't sit on her own now, all the photos are either me carrying her sitting or standing.

Love how Hubs & Fayth look like here, super natural - just like how they always look like enjoying play time together. Steve was very good with directing, esp with kids. Just too bad this Fayth was just a stubborn one who refused to take directions. (*faint*) So at the very least b'cuz Steve did a great job directing and using other methods to get her to laugh and play, we managed to get some natural & happy shots.

But of course all can't be perfect. So since we've only had one theme of photos to choose from, a few were probably less perfect. But that is okay.

Baby H.: "Whatcha lookin' at"?

My mischievous girl.

While Fayth was being difficult at certain times during the shoot, Hubs took a break and I carried on with Baby H. and we managed to get a really cute photo of her chubbs face smiling. MAD LOVE!!!
#photolockscreenworthy Haha.

My blur toot toot baby girl, she was sleepy and cranky by then.

I only managed to change Baby H. into the 2nd family wear and before the rest of us had time to change, she totally burst into cranky mode. Steve managed to capture just this one shot of her before everything ended. I was supposed to let her wear a matching white bow headband with Mummy but then didn't get a chance to, she look like a boy here. AHA!

And that's all of our family shoot photos... If you're wondering where to get family wear, I got them at Moley Apparels. (#notsponsored) It was a very last minute thing that we decided on getting family wear b'cuz I totally overlooked or thought it wasn't necessary until the Hubs brought it up. So out of time & convenience we went to Jurong Point which was across the road from our place to try grab 2 sets that we can. So tah-dah, we got them in a jiffy 'cuz they had lots of designs to choose from. The only down side is that the Family sets were limited and so were the Mummy and Infant Baby matching sets. So we ended up with something I liked and Hubs got something to match in colour/theme instead. 'Cuz I rem the family set only came in 2 designs and I wouldn't wear them again so I'd rather get something I like instead to match with the girls and we can keep wearing them. Guess that works as well. Price wise, affordable.. it ranges from $20-$30+ and they also have store discounts. Hubs bought one of the Tees for $15 ish after discount? Cheap!

So that's all for today and I hope you liked my short photo sharing session. Do feel free to leave comments in the comment box below if you have any question/s regarding the topic and I'll try my best to answer them if it's not already stated in my blog above. And that's all for today, bye~! ; )
