(Expecting) Mummy & Baby Organic Product Review_Four Cow Farm

Four Cow Farm is an organic baby skincare brand recommended by a friend who's well-versed with organic products since she herself owns an online store selling a nice range of organic skincare products for adults. My girlfriend mentioned that there are popular baby skincare brands who claim to be organic but are not 100% certified and that she's known Four Cow Farm for its effectiveness and properties of being Au-natural since she has Mummy friends who uses their products. Only after being "educated" by my GF on the word organic and what it means, only then I knew that not all brands who claim to be organic are really organic 'cuz some of them print the word on their packaging without actually being certified for it.

A quick introduction on Four Cow Farm
The brand was started by a Midwife, Mum & Grandmother who wanted to make creams and balms that were as good and natural as possible for her two little grandchildren (one of whom was born with eczema). Using her own time-tested recipes and traditional ingredients, Nanna’s labour of love began as a gift to her two little ones. Today, the whole family (yes, dads included!) is committed to providing ‘nothing but the best’ handcrafted natural skincare products from their farm in the Blackall Mountain Range of South East Queensland (which runs on 100% green energy!). (introduction taken from: http://fourcowfarm.com/about-us/)

I was sent a lovely set of baby skincare AND also skincare for expecting Moms by Four Cow Farm which I only came to know about from their Mother's range until recently! How nice to be able to use natural skincare products on myself while my next little one is brewing inside - haha. The whole set came with very informative sheets of introduction to the brand as well as some other useful tips for Moms/parents.. will show them to you in a bit.

List of 'No's within the Four Cow Farm's believes. You can see how strongly they believe in having no artificials and harmful chemicals in their skincare products, which earned them a certification with the Australian Certified Organic processor – meaning their workshop and facilities where they handcraft their range have passed the stringent criteria set by the ACO.

Products from Four Cow Farm contains no parabens, propylene glycol, sulfates (ALS/SLS/SLES), cocamidopropyl betaine, artificial fragrances or colours, synthetic detergents, petrochemicals or petrochemical derivatives, mineral oils, lanolin, chlorinated water or phthalates.... (okay too much technical terms) Just one last thing to add is that their products are always carefully made, over very low heat, so as to ensure all the natural antioxidants are retained, as well as the benefits and nutrients of the original ingredients - you get the point; Au natural. : P

One of the few info sheets provided which I really liked was the many recommended uses for some of their products. B'cuz I really love products that are versatile but I tend to be lazy to find out how they can be used so these were great & handy!

> Here are some interesting ways to use the....

> Four Cow Farm Baby Wash:
  • As a laundry detergent for special items. Just add a small amount, along with some baking soda to soften the water. Maybe I can try on my Ju-ju-be bags or TULA Baby Carrier as these items are usually washed with care. JJB/TULA Mamas, u know what I mean. ; )
  • Detergent for baby's bottles or any dishes at home.
  • Can even be used to wash veggies & fruits!
  • And even for Daddy when he shaves - LOLs!

Calendula Remedy:
  • The very basic - lip balm, b'cuz it is safe & absolutely edible.
  • Mummies will like this - to use the balm as a nipple soother from all that breastfeeding. And as I mentioned that it is absolutely edible, means you're free to use before and after feeding your little one.
  • Definitely wonderful for soothing eczema-affected skin.
  • And basically for itch, burns, dry and irritated skin.

Tea Tree Remedy:
  • This is an excellent balm for reducing itching & swelling from mozzie bites, also great as an insect repellent.
  • Combat mild flu or cold by adding a dollop of Tea Tree Remedy in warm water, and inhale deeply after dissolved.
  • Soothes rashes, burns, scrapes and cuts.

The other very handy info sheet given was the "Guide To Eczema".. It teaches us parents the basics, the key triggers, and the management of eczema. Super useful to have, and esp for those with babies/totts that suffer from itchy skin or eczema.

I really don't wanna bombard too much info, but I really find the "Key Triggers of Eczema" something good to know.. so just share a quick one k.. : P

*The 3 'E's of eczema....
> Edibles
- common trigger foods like cow's milk, eggs, soya, wheat, fish and nuts.
> Environmental
- common culprits like clothing, harsh soaps & detergents, perfumes & preservatives in skincare products, fabric softeners, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust mites, pollen and pets.
> Emotional
- strong emotions like stress & anger, as well as illness.

Here's a quick photo on the 3 basic must-have baby skincare products; the Baby Wash, Baby Lotion, and Nappy Cream.

Let me just quickly show you the consistencies of each products....

Four Cow Farm Baby Wash

A very gentle and 100% pure Castile Soap Baby Wash is made only from Premium Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This baby wash soothes and calms dry and irritated skin. I love how the body wash is absolutely non-drying and gentle it can be used all over for the face, hair and body and is perfect for those with sensitive skin or skin prone to dryness and irritation. It is fragrance-free and has a natural Olive Oil scent to it which give a very earthy feeling to the bath.. I don't know about you but something about natural & earthy scents gives me a very luxurious feeling when using such soaps. Just makes me feel good using on baby and smelling her after bath.

Four Cow Farm Baby Lotion
100% natural baby lotion made from Pure Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Sweet Almond and Apricot Kernel Oils which is excellent for babies because of its gentle nature and is calming to the skin. Also enriched with Rosemary Leaf Extract for additional soothing benefits. This lotion is gentle enough to be used (again) all-over face and body which absorbs quickly and leaves no sticky residue. Perfect for our hot & humid weather.

Four Cow Farm Nappy Cream
This is a soothing daily barrier cream containing anti-inflammatory, moisturising, safeguarding, and protective properties of the ingredients; Castor Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Soy Lecithin and Zinc Oxide. It is a light and ideal easy-to-use cream for daily use, for soothing and protection of baby's sensitive most area. I like the texture of this nappy cream; it is different from those over-the-counter brands which usually feel thick and difficult to spread. This nappy cream just feels like a richer moisturiser which glides on alot easier and again smells very natural like scents of oils.

Four Cow Farm Calendula Remedy
Four Cow Farm boasts about the ONLY Calendula Balm made from over 80% Organic Calendula-Infused Olive Oil with Organic Chamomile, this balm contains no added fragrances or colourings, retaining Calendula’s rich, natural smell and colour. It is a soother ideal for dry, irritated or sensitive skin or lips, and can be even used as a natural and safe nipple balm. If you missed out the wonderful information I written above, this balm is 100% edible which means its perfect to use on your nipples before and after breastfeeding baby! I personally have not used this as a nipple balm yet but I've tried it on my lips and I'm liking the light balmy texture which spreads and glides on easily. This is a really great property as a nipple balm 'cuz you'd want something thats easy to glide on during application instead of having to tug your poor cracked nips.

Four Cow Farm Tea Tree Remedy
This is a highly effective barrier balm ideal for soothing nappy rash, cuts, scrapes, burns or bites. Made from Natural Beeswax, Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Castor and Macadamia Oils, with the anti-bacterial & anti-fungal effects of Organic Tea Tree Pure Essential Oil. I love the soothing scent of tea tree oil and used it on my irritated skin which got so itchy due to long hours of wearing my strapless bra. You know those with silicon on the sides to make them non-slip, yea I get irritation whenever I wear those for too long. The balm helped to soothe and relieve the redness and itching just overnight. You may refer to the list above for the wonderful & versatile uses of these balms. They are definitely suitable for the whole family, and a small pot goes a long way.

And just a snap on the Mother's All-Natural Range of skincare products.. I've been using them for weeks now and I must say they really helped to sooth my itchy skin. I have not been diagnosed for any skin condition so far, but I have this on-going skin problem which is itching before bedtime EVERY NIGHT - it's super annoying! On certain nights I get mild itching, and certain nights super itches which will get me scratching all over for a good 30 minutes before finally stopping and falling asleep. Ever since I used this range of skincare product from Four Cow Farm, I started to notice that the itching actually has stopped. I'm not sure which product it is exactly that is helping, but I'm guessing its the combination which helps to sooth & mosturise my dry skin. Now I think there's no going back for me 'cuz its amazing how I'm feeling so relieved 'cuz I've never gotten the same results from other skincare thus far. So yes, both thumbs up from me! ; )

Mother’s All-Natural Castile Hair & Body Wash

This is made from similar ingredients to the Baby Wash which is also a 100% Pure Castile
Soap. All products from this range is excellent for mothers and mothers-to-be, and particularly on any skin experiencing tension, strain or stress. This is gentle and nourishing to be used daily all-over hair, face and body that’s rich, protective and moisturising. Its scent is very similar to that of the Baby Wash which has the natural scents of olive oil. I like that even though this wash has no lather or foam to it, but is still very easy to spread all over leaving skin feeling clean after each use.

Mother’s All-Natural Daily Rich Cream Salve

A luxurious and restorative blend of the finest organic oils and extracts for soothing and caring for sensitive, stressed or stretching skins. Ingredients include Organic Rosehip, Camellia & Olive Oil, including Organic White Tea and Pomegranate Extracts. These ingredients are excellent as a rich and soothing daily all-over face and body salve for mothers and mothers-to-be or any skin experiencing tension, strain or stress, and requiring greater moisturising and protection.

Mother’s All-Natural Intensive Restorative Oil

Last but not least, a fortified blend of the finest restorative organic oils for boosting the care of sensitive, stressed or stretching skins. Ingredients include Organic Rosehip & Camellia oil, with added richness of Natural Olive Squalane, this enhanced oil contains skin-moisturising benefits which enhance the retention of moisture in the skin, and help restore suppleness and elasticity. It can be used at least twice a day as a rich alternative to a cream or lotion; or add to an existing cream or lotion as an intensive booster. I personally am not a huge fan of its scent b'cuz it kinda smells like fish oil IMO but definitely something I can live with. I usually do not use this in the day as it may be a tad too rich for our humid weather, but I mix this oil with the Rich Cream Salve for night use before I go to bed, the texture is definitely rich and highly moisturing... great for night restoration.

I definitely see myself continuing usage of the Mother's All-Natural Range as I've seen positive improvements of my skin condition in such short time, and also will try the baby skincare products on my newborn when she's here in a month or two.
